1863-2013 THIS YEAR WE CELEBRATE OUR 150th ANNIVERSARY
Baking has been in the Swift Family, since 1863, when Hannah Swift, Great Great Aunt of Richard Swift, began baking in the small Staffordshire village of Wheaton Aston. She continued to run the bakery business with the help of her daughter Harriet (1865 - 1955) until the time when Hannah's nephew Tom took over the Bakery at the age of 19 after serving his apprenticeship in Bakeries at West Bromwich and Stafford.
He married and had seven children (4 sons / 3 daughters) one of which was Charles Swift (Richards Father), he took on, and continued the Baking tradition, after working with his Father and serving in Field Bakeries during World War 2, based in Mombasa, East Africa, he returned and bought his own bakery in Gnosall another small Staffordshire village approx 5 miles from Wheaton Aston. Gnosall was where Richard Swift was born, he, one of three children, was the 4th Generation to enter the Bakery Business. After serving an apprenticeship at Gnosall, and attending Birmingham College of Food and Technology, he became Bakery Manger at Gnosall. However in 1978 Richard himself got the wandering Bug, he left his Father's Business and moved to Clee Hill, in Shropshire, where the Swift Baking Tradition continues to this day.
In these premises, you will find, the fifth generation of bakers in the shape of Richards two Sons. Together, they continue to strive to produce a product of quality and excellence, combined with the traditional baking method.
